Mariah Whaley

Medical Laboratory Technician

Mariah Whaley came to Delaware Tech to achieve two of the purest possible goals.

"I really wanted to help people and I wanted to be the first in my family to go into the healthcare field," Whaley said.

It took a few majors for Whaley to find the right fit, but she eventually settled on medical laboratory technician.

"I was trying to figure out what career went best with my personality," Whaley said. "Choosing to become a medical lab technician was a perfect fit because I enjoy science, technology, and healthcare.

"I like to think of medical lab technicians as the detectives of healthcare, working behind the scenes to provide reliable and high-quality results."

Her time at Delaware Tech has also brought about some personal change for Whaley. She said taking different courses has expanded her knowledge and skills, and she's had to learn to work hard and study harder for some classes. She also had to learn how to balance school and life.

"I've developed a strong character and improved in discipline," Whaley said.

After graduation, Whaley hopes to begin working in either a research lab or a cancer center.

"It was important for me to come to college because I wanted a bright future for myself, and I wanted to have a good stable career," Whaley said.
